Praying the Scriptures: The Book!

Praying the Scriptures is coming to a bookstore near you!

Well, probably to a website near you.  Either way, in October 2014 the complete three-year cycle of prayers - new and revised - will be available on Church Publishing.  Thank you for your support; I hope it continues.

Prayers of the People - Proper 25C

Prayers of the People—Proper 25C

Happy are the people whose strength is in the Lord!  Let us come humbly before the Most High praying, “God be merciful, And hear our prayer.”

Lord, be merciful to your Church. Forgive us our pride and the times we obscure your mercy. Give us humility that we may generously give to you as you have given to us.
Silence
God be merciful,
And hear our prayer.

Lord, be merciful to our nation. Forgive us our pride and the times we have gloried in our own accomplishments. Give us humility that we may generously care for the orphans, the widows, and all those in need.
Silence
God be merciful,
And hear our prayer.

Lord, be merciful to those us of who are called to care for your creation. Forgive us our pride and the times we have polluted the springs and pools of water with which you have blessed us. Give us humility that we may generously deal with all of your creation.
Silence
God be merciful,
And hear our prayer.

Lord, be merciful to the residents of our community. Forgive us our pride and the times we fail to trust that you stand by us and give us the strength we need. Give us humility that we may generously address the challenges that face us.
Silence
God be merciful,
And hear our prayer.

Lord, be merciful to all those with broken hearts, bodies and souls. Forgive us our pride and the times we have exalted ourselves above your suffering servants. Give us humility that we may generously love all your people.
Invite the congregation to add their petitions and thanksgivings, followed by Silence
God be merciful,
And hear our prayer.

Lord, be merciful to all who have died. Forgive us our pride and the times we forget that we are surrounded by a communion of saints. Generously accept them into the your dwelling forever.
Silence
God be merciful,
And hear our prayer.

Prayers of the People - Proper 24C

Prayers of the People—Proper 24C

Brothers and sisters, our help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.  And yet, we can pray, saying, Put your word within us, O God; write it on our hearts.”

We pray, O God, for the Church and its leaders.  May we proclaim the Truth and share the Good News.  Give your Church grace, that each member may carry out his or her ministry fully.
Invite the congregation to offer their thanksgivings, followed by Silence
Put your word within us, O God;
write it on our hearts.

We pray, O God, for all those who interpret and establish laws—especially judges.  Give our leaders wisdom equal to their responsibilities, that they may serve the common good and promote justice throughout the world.
Silence
Put your word within us, O God;
write it on our hearts.

We pray, O God, for all of creation.  In the beauty of hills and streams, we glimpse your majesty.  In the wonder of sun and moon, we glimpse your power.  May we be responsible in our care and protection of all you have given us.
Silence
Put your word within us, O God;
write it on our hearts.

We pray, O God, for the people of the Toledo area.  May those who cry out for justice, see justice.  May those who search for Truth, find Truth.  May those who fear for their own safety, realize their comfort and security is in you.
Silence
Put your word within us, O God;
write it on our hearts.

We pray, O God, for the sick and the sorrowful.  May those who call upon you for healing also find you to be their faithful healer.
Invite the congregation to offer their petitions, followed by Silence
Put your word within us, O God;
write it on our hearts.

We pray, O God, for all who have died.  May all those justified by your Son, Christ Jesus, be judged by him as faithful and good.
Silence
Put your word within us, O God;
write it on our hearts.
