Prayers of the People—Proper 19C

Brothers and sisters, God is our refuge.  Let us implore the Lord our God praying, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”

We pray for the leaders of the Church.  May they be worthy examples to those who would come to believe in Christ for eternal life.  May the Church place its hope in you, O God, and not in human wisdom.

Silence

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

and renew a right spirit within me.

We pray for the leaders of the nations.  May they show mercy and advocate for the rights of the people.  May they, like Moses, seek the greater good rather than their own interests.

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

and renew a right spirit within me.

We thank you for all you created.  We thank you that your Son Jesus Christ rejoiced in your creation—seeing the Kingdom of God even in a field of sheep.  Open our eyes and our hearts.

Invite the congregation to offer their prayers of thanksgiving, followed by Silence

We pray for those who are lost, that they might be found.  We pray for those who are sure they are not lost; we ask that you find them too.  And we pray for the found; give them hearts for the lost.

We pray for the sick, the anxious and the sorrowful.  Make them hear of joy and gladness, that broken bodies and broken spirits may rejoice.  

Invite the congregation to offer their intercessions, followed by Silence

We trust to your mercy, O God, all who have died.  May they rest eternally in your peace.  To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, our God, be honor and glory forever and ever.

Prayers of the People—Proper 7C

There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male or female; for all of us are one in Christ Jesus. Let us pray as one body, saying: “We put our trust in you, O God; Hear us; answer us; and send us forth.”

Send out your light and your truth, that they may lead your people into the joy and gladness we experience at your altar.  And then send us out to shine our light and share our joy.

God our Strength, remember those who feel forgotten, be salvation for those who are being oppressed. Defend the cause of the innocent. Deliver the world from wickedness.

You, O Lord, grant your loving-kindness in the daytime, the night is filled with your songs: We thank you for blessing your creation with your presence in all times and all seasons.

Invite the congregation to add their thanksgivings, followed by Silence

Lord Jesus, break the chains of those held in bondage.  Restore those forgotten by society. May all prisoners and captives, by the power of your love and mercy, have their dignity renewed.

We pray for those weighed down by heavy souls. We pray for those who feel like they are in over their heads. And for the disquieted. And for the ill.

Invite the congregation to add their petitions, followed by Silence

O God, in Christ Jesus you have made us your children. We pray for the dying and the dead. Bring them into your heavenly dwelling where they may be at home with you forever.
