Prayers of the People—Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday B

Though willing in spirit, we are still weak in the flesh.  So let us appeal to God’s mercy saying: “Help us, O Lord. Lord, have mercy.”

O Lord, let the same mind be in your Church that was in Christ Jesus.  With bended knees and confessing tongues, may we live his way of humility and obedience.

Help us, O Lord.

Lord, have mercy.

Almighty God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Give us hearts to also love every human being.

Silence

Help us, O Lord.

Lord, have mercy.

O God, bless the trees: In celebration of your Son we waved their branches; In our sinful violence we took what you made good and crafted a wooden cross.  O God, bless the trees.

Help us, O Lord.

Lord, have mercy.

Merciful God, look upon the city of Toledo.  Forgive us our violent ways.  Even in hard times, let us not become a reproach to our neighbors.  Make your face to shine upon the city.

Lord, have mercy.

O Lord, we pray for those who are wasted by grief, whose years are filled with sighing.  We pray for those whose strength has failed and whose bones are consumed.  In your loving-kindness save them.

I ask your petitions, followed by Silence

Lord, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you took human form; you died on the cross.  You shared with us life and death.  We trust the dead to your care.  We trust our lives to you.

Prayers of the People—Lent 5B

Jesus said, “Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”  So let us appeal to God saying, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a right spirit within me.”

O God, renew your Church: Strengthen us to faithfully keep the covenant with which you have blessed us.  Right your law on our hearts.  You be our God and we shall be your beloved people.

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

And renew a right spirit within me.

O God, renew all humanity: Draw all people to your Son Jesus.  May all tribes and nations experience the joy of your saving help.

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

And renew a right spirit within me.

O God, renew your creation: Sustain all you have made with your bountiful Spirit. May all of creation reflect your glory.

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

And renew a right spirit within me.

O God, renew the unemployed: Make them again hear of joy and gladness.  Among the swift and varied changes of the world, may they find in you a sure foundation.

O God, renew the sick and sorrowful: Have mercy upon them, O God, according to your loving-kindness.  Wash them clean, and they shall be clean indeed.

O God, you make all things new: we thank you that your Son Jesus has become the eternal source of our salvation.  May those who have died in the flesh be raised to new and everlasting life in Christ.
