Prayers of the People: Proper 25A

Prayers of the People—Proper 25A

Friends, the Lord has been our refuge from one generation to another.  Let us pray to our God saying, “Show your servants your works, O Lord, and be gracious to us.”

We pray for the leaders of the Church.  Give bishops, priests, deacons and lay leaders gentle and loving hearts.  May we be empowered to share the Gospel and ourselves with those in need.
Silence
Show your servants your works, O Lord,
and be gracious to us.

We pray for all humankind.  Prosper the work of our hands.  May all those who work earn a fair wage.  May those without work find strength and encouragement in your love.  Give us hearts to respect the dignity of every human being.
Silence
Show your servants your works, O Lord,
and be gracious to us.

We pray for all creation.  You brought forth the mountains.  You gave birth to the land and the earth.  Give us the desire and will to care for all you have made.
Silence
Show your servants your works, O Lord,
and be gracious to us.

We pray for the areas in which we live.  O God, we want to obey what you command.  Help us to love our neighbors as ourselves.
Silence
Show your servants your works, O Lord,
and be gracious to us.

We pray for the afflicted and the suffering.  And we pray for those who weep and mourn.  Nurse them back to health as a mother tenderly nurses her own children.

Allow the congregation to add their petitions and thanksgivings, followed by Silence

Show your servants your works, O Lord,
and be gracious to us.

We pray for those who have died.  Though we are swept away like a dream in this mortal life, you promise to raise us to life immortal through your Son.  May your graciousness, O Lord, be upon us.
Silence
Show your servants your works, O Lord,
and be gracious to us.

Prayers of the People: Proper 24A

Prayers of the People—Proper 24A

Brothers and sisters, beloved by God: Grace to you and peace.  Let us pray to the Holy One saying, “Be gracious to us, O God; show us your mercy.”

We always give thanks to you, O God, for the Church, constantly remembering before you its work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.  Inspire us by the Holy Spirit.
Silence
Be gracious to us, O God;
show us your mercy.

Almighty God, make us more like your Son, Jesus, who did not regard people with partiality.  May we love justice.  And may we be gracious with all people.
Silence
Be gracious to us, O God;
show us your mercy.

God our King, the earth shakes in your presence.  All that is belongs, not to us, but to you.  May we be good stewards of all you have created.
Silence
Be gracious to us, O God;
show us your mercy.

Holy One, you answer those who call upon you.  Hear the voices of the weak and wronged.  May this city know and experience your presence.
Silence
Be gracious to us, O God;
show us your mercy.

Great Lord, give your people rest.  Cover the sick and sorrowful with your healing hand.  And may the lonely and forgotten find favor in your sight.

Allow the congregation to add their petitions and thanksgivings, followed by Silence

Be gracious to us, O God;
show us your mercy.

Living God, you have rescued the dying and dead from the coming wrath through the death and resurrection of your Christ.  May our voices blend with theirs as they proclaim your greatness and worship around your throne forever.
Silence
Be gracious to us, O God;
show us your mercy.
